KKR to sell Infinity Transportation to Ares for $2.9 billion

KKR has entered into a definitive agreement to sell Infinity Transportation, a major railcar-leasing and intermodal equipment platform, to Ares Management for an enterprise value of approximately $2.9 billion.

Founded in 2004, Infinity Transportation manages roughly 50,000 railcars leased to over 350 customers across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Since KKR acquired the company in 2021, the platform has expanded its fleet and increased its book value by 150%.

The acquisition will be executed through Ares Infrastructure Equity and Ares Insurance Solutions. Ares intends to leverage its infrastructure investing capabilities to support Infinity’s management team, facilitate fleet growth, and deepen customer relationships within the North American logistics network. The deal is driven by long-term demand for rail equipment resulting from manufacturing reshoring and the pursuit of more resilient supply chains.

The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals, with an expected completion date in the first quarter of 2027.
