Klaas Heufer-Umlauf reveals concealing color blindness for apprenticeship

German entertainer Klaas Heufer-Umlauf revealed during the ARD series ‘Kurzstrecke mit Pierre M. Krause’ that he concealed a color vision deficiency to begin a hairdressing apprenticeship.

Heufer-Umlauf disclosed that his red-green color blindness was discovered during a mandatory medical examination for his training. Despite the doctor noting that the condition would make mixing hair colors difficult, Heufer-Umlauf stated that the physician ultimately signed off on his fitness for the role, saying, ‘He didn’t want to ruin my whole life, and then he just signed it.’

The 42-year-old entertainer, known for his work on ProSieben alongside Joko Winterscheidt, also mentioned having a diminished sense of smell, noting that sensory perceptions are generally not his strength.
