Klagenfurt Bus Survey Shows Riders Want More Frequent Service and Better Real‑Time Info
A survey commissioned by the city of Klagenfurt and conducted by the University of Klagenfurt gathered responses from more than 1,500 public‑transport users, with about 1,200 complete questionnaires analysed. The study found that city buses are a daily or multiple‑times‑per‑week staple for most riders, especially for passengers under 18.
Respondents reported high usage of the 60‑minute ticket, the regional Kärnten ticket and the KlimaTicket Austria, purchasing tickets mainly through the KlagenfurtMobil 2.0 app or directly on the bus. The most frequently requested improvements were shorter bus intervals during evenings, nights, weekends and holidays, additional stops in the city centre, Viktring and leisure areas, larger buses at peak times, and more attractive pricing and locations for Nextbike and Avant2Go bike‑share services.
Real‑time information was a clear priority: passengers want reliable updates on delays or cancellations, preferably via digital displays at stops and the KlagenfurtMobil 2.0 app. Mayor Christian Scheider said, “It is important to gather customers’ opinions to continuously improve public transport,” emphasizing the city’s commitment to act on the survey’s findings.
