Klagenfurt hosts forum for 47 Austrian cities aiming for climate neutrality by 2040

Representatives from 47 Austrian municipalities gathered for the 4th Dialogue Forum of the “Climate Neutral City” mission. The event, held in Villach and Klagenfurt, focused on achieving climate neutrality by 2040 through research, innovation, and collaborative projects.

Discussions centered on accelerating the energy and mobility transition, as well as developing solutions for the circular economy. Participants included representatives from federal, state, and municipal levels, alongside officials from the Climate and Energy Fund and the FFG.

Klagenfurt Mayor Christian Scheider highlighted that the primary challenge is not developing concepts, but rather the actual implementation and securing necessary financing. He noted that municipalities must balance ambitious climate goals with tight budgets, emphasizing the need for measurable progress and public engagement to maintain credibility.
