Klaipėda climate features unique maritime influences
Klaipėda, Lithuania’s only port city, experiences a unique climate shaped by its proximity to the Baltic Sea and the Curonian Lagoon. Due to the high thermal inertia of the sea, temperature fluctuations in the city are significantly milder than in the eastern or central parts of the country.
In the summer, sea breezes typically provide a cooling effect, while in the winter, the sea releases stored heat to moderate the cold. Despite the region's reputation for wind and storms, Klaipėda often receives more sunlight than many other Lithuanian cities because clouds frequently pass quickly through the area.
