Klaipėda Dance Festival to premiere Swiss-Lithuanian diptych

The VI Klaipėda Dance Festival will premiere a dance diptych on August 21 and 22 at the Klaipėda State Musical Theatre (KVMT) in the ‘Jūra’ hall. The program marks the first time the artistic experiences of Swiss and Lithuanian creators will meet on the festival stage.

The first part of the evening features Swiss choreographer Marcelis Leemann’s work, ‘Decrescendo’. The piece explores the relationship between the individual and the community, tradition, collective memory, and human identity. Leemann describes the concept of ‘Decrescendo’ not as a symbol of loss, but as a path to liberation through shedding the unnecessary to find essence.

The second part presents Agnija Šeiko’s ‘Borrowed Landscapes’, a dance composition inspired by the principles of Japanese garden design. This work examines the human connection to the environment, memory, and others. Both works will be performed by the Klaipėda State Musical Theatre ballet troupe and share underlying themes regarding human relationships and the balance between community belonging and individuality.
