Klaipėda District to fund Dangaus Street repairs amid rising roadwork accident costs
The Klaipėda District Municipality is preparing to fund the reconstruction of Dangaus Street entirely with its own resources after a previous agreement with the state road manager, VIA Lietuva, was terminated. The street serves as a vital connection between the Klaipėda district and the city of Klaipėda. Planned improvements include installing traffic lights at the intersection of Dangaus, Liepų, and Piligrimų streets, adding extra lanes, installing storm drainage, and creating a speed bump near the A13 highway.
Simultaneously, extensive roadwork by VIA Lietuva on major arteries like the A1 and A2 highways has contributed to a rise in traffic-related damages. According to insurance provider BTA, summer road damage claims have reached approximately 16 million euros. Drivers have reported collisions with temporary barriers, tire and rim damage from debris, and multi-vehicle accidents caused by sudden braking in narrowed construction zones.
