Klaipėda hosts musical theatre anniversary and contemporary music festival

Klaipėda is hosting significant cultural events this October, including the 40th anniversary season of the Klaipėda State Musical Theatre (KVMT) and the 23rd edition of the ‘Permainų muzika’ contemporary music festival.

To mark its anniversary and International Music Day on October 15, KVMT will perform ‘Vilties simfonija’, featuring works by composer Alvidas Remesas. The event will honor the theatre’s founders and long-term employees, including first director Šarūnas Juškevičius and conductor Kaziui Kšanas. The celebration highlights the institution's history, which traces back to 1820 and saw a significant revival in 1987.

Meanwhile, the ‘Permainų muzika’ festival, organized by the Klaipėda Concert Hall, will run from October 9 to 17. Under the artistic direction of Vykintas Baltakas, the festival aims to expand beyond traditional concert halls into urban spaces to foster a closer relationship between music and the community. The festival opens with a performance by the French percussion ensemble Les Percussions de Strasbourg, featuring the project ‘Timelessness’ by Belgian composer Thierry De Mey.
