Klaipėda infrastructure issues spark accessibility complaints

Residents in Klaipėda have reported significant accessibility issues following recent sidewalk and pedestrian crossing renovations on Liepų and Tilžės streets. Complaints highlight that high curbs and a lack of ramps make it nearly impossible for cyclists and people using strollers or wheelchairs to navigate the areas safely.

Inga Kubilienė, head of the Klaipėda Municipality City Management Department, stated that the responsibility for these problematic designs lies with private landowners and territory developers rather than the municipality. Specifically, the exit from the Lidl territory onto Tilžės street and works at Liepų street 53 are managed by private developers. The municipality intends to contact these developers to request the lowering of curbs and will continue to monitor the situation to ensure safe traffic conditions.
