Klaipėda medics warn of dangers regarding fetal alcohol exposure
Medical professionals at Klaipėda University Hospital are warning about the dangers of alcohol consumption during pregnancy. Obstetrician-gynecologist Linas Rovas noted that while cases of newborns born with symptoms resembling alcohol withdrawal are rare, they remain a significant concern for fetal development.
Medical experts emphasize that there is no safe amount of alcohol to consume during pregnancy, as ethanol directly affects the developing brain. The lack of national statistics on fetal alcohol syndrome is attributed to the fact that many pregnant women are hesitant to disclose alcohol use to family doctors.
