Klaipėda southern bypass construction accelerated to 2032

The construction of the Klaipėda southern bypass is now expected to be completed by 2032, three years earlier than the original 2035 target. Minister Juras Taminskas stated that process optimization allowed for this accelerated timeline.

The 6.8-kilometer bypass is considered a project of special national importance, part of the East-West transport corridor. It will connect the city of Klaipėda and its seaport area with the regional road leading from Klaipėda to Kaunao via Šilutė and Jurbarkas.

In addition to the bypass, the government is preparing a long-term state road network renewal program based on a public-private partnership (PPP) model. This program will include the southern bypass in its first stage. Plans are also underway to reconstruct the Jakų roundabout to alleviate significant traffic congestion on the A13 road, with the Šilutė highway reconstruction also slated for completion by 2032.
