Klaipėda to host street theater performance in Bandužių courtyards

The KiemArta project will present a street theater performance titled “Kol pareisiu namo” in the Bandužių micro-district of Klaipėda on August 27. The production is based on the Lithuanian folk tale “Kaulinis Senis ant geležinio kalno” and aims to transform residential courtyards into a stage for storytelling.

More than forty young artists from the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, Vilnius Academy of Arts, and Kaunas University of Technology have spent ten days collaborating on the production. Dramaturg Simas Zokaitis describes the folk tale as a Lithuanian heroic saga, comparing it to a local version of the Avengers. Director Monika Steponavičiūtė noted that the project seeks to encourage adults to view communal courtyards not just as transit points between cars and homes, but as vibrant public spaces where magic and community interaction can occur.
