Klaipėda University scientists develop eco-friendly oil spill sorbent
Firefighters in Klaipėda are set to conduct the first real-world testing of InnoAerogel®, an eco-friendly sorbent developed by scientists at Klaipėda University. Created by the startup Inobiostar, the material is manufactured from paper waste and is designed to clean up oil spills.
This testing phase moves the technology from laboratory settings to actual emergency responses. The goal is to gather professional feedback on how the material performs under varying environmental conditions, such as different water currents, wind speeds, and temperatures. This data will help researchers refine the product for better application in sensitive aquatic ecosystems, such as the Curonian Lagoon.
