Klaus Lütkefedder wins Westerwaldkreis district administrator election

Klaus Lütkefedder of the CDU has won the run-off election for the district administrator (Landrat) position in Westerwaldkreis. Lütkefedder secured 60.6 percent of the vote, defeating SPD candidate Dr. Tanja Machalet, who received 39.4 percent.

The run-off election was held on August 30, 2026, after no candidate achieved an absolute majority in the initial election on August 16. Lütkefedder saw strong support across various municipalities, including significant leads in Wallmerod, Westerburg, and Rennerod.

Following the announcement of the results, Machalet congratulated her opponent on his victory. Lütkefedder expressed gratitude to his party and his supporters for the successful campaign.
