Klaus Rader, the 63-year-old co-founder of the restaurant chains L’Osteria and Vapiano, has died following a car accident during the ‘550 Challenge Mallorca’ rally on October 9. Rader was driving a Porsche GT3 RS on a mountain road in the Serra de Tramuntana between Pollença and Lluc when the vehicle veered off the road and plunged into a ravine.

His co-pilot, 39-year-old Austrian professional Christina Ettel, survived the crash but sustained serious spinal injuries. Spanish authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the accident. Following the incident, organizers immediately halted the rally and canceled the remaining scheduled stages and events.

Rader, who co-founded L’Osteria in 1999, was also a founding member of Vapiano in 2002. He is survived by his wife, fashion influencer Viktoria Rader, and their four children.
