Klaveness Combination Carriers launches wind-assisted MV Baltazar

Klaveness Combination Carriers (KCC) has officially launched the MV Baltazar at Fremantle Port, introducing the first wind-assisted propulsion system in the company’s fleet. The new vessel utilizes suction sails and advanced energy efficiency technologies to reduce its carbon footprint and improve fuel efficiency on voyages between Australia and China.

During the naming ceremony, Western Australia Deputy Premier Rita Saffioti served as the ship’s ‘Lady Sponsor’. KCC, which is a major shipper of alumina to the Middle East, noted that the vessel aims to mitigate rising fuel concerns and emissions. The company continues to work with several Western Australian importers and exporters, including Alcoa.
