Klay Thompson joins Miami Heat on two-year deal

Veteran shooting guard Klay Thompson has officially joined the Miami Heat on a two-year contract valued at approximately $11.5 million. Thompson, 36, reached the agreement following a buyout with the Dallas Mavericks, reportedly sacrificing roughly $10 million in potential earnings to facilitate the move and join a championship contender.

During his introductory press conference, Thompson expressed his desire for a “redemption season,” stating his primary motivation was the opportunity to compete at a high level and pursue another NBA title. He noted that the chance to play for a deep postseason run was more attractive than maximizing his financial gains. Thompson also highlighted his respect for new teammate Giannis Antetokounmpo, comparing the Greek star's impact on the game to that of Stephen Curry.

The Heat, led by head coach Erik Spoelstra, have built a formidable roster around Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo. Thompson is expected to provide essential floor spacing and veteran leadership to a team aiming for a deep playoff run.
