Klean Industries and MeOH Energy advance waste-to-fuel technologies

Companies Klean Industries and MeOH Energy are developing technologies to convert waste materials, such as end-of-life tires and mixed plastics, into usable hydrocarbons and fuels.

Klean Industries utilizes advanced thermal conversion through pyrolysis to process waste in oxygen-free reactors. This method aims to return embedded energy to the economy by producing hydrocarbon oil from plastic and recovering oil, carbon black, and steel wire from tires. The company provides turn-key projects including engineering and equipment supply to transform waste streams into industrial feedstocks.

In Australia, MeOH Energy is planning a synthetic diesel production operation, potentially located in Gladstone, Queensland. The project aims to convert urban waste and old tires into low-emission diesel or aviation fuels that are approximately 30 percent cleaner than conventional fossil-derived diesel. If successful, the plant could produce roughly 400,000 liters of fuel per day at a wholesale price estimated to be over 60 cents per liter cheaper than typical capital city diesel prices.
