Klebelsberg Center begins school supply distribution for 84,000 students

The Klebelsberg Center has begun distributing free school supply packages to more than 84,000 students in grades 1-8 who receive regular child welfare benefits. Edit Sinka, president of the Klebelsberg Center, announced the start of the distribution during a press conference at a school in Tárnok.

The program is funded by the European Social Fund Plus (ESZA+) under the EFOP Plusz framework. For the 2021–2027 financing period, a total of 7.78 billion forints has been allocated for such human and social development initiatives. This marks the third round of support for school supply distribution under this program. To date, 208,825 school supply packages worth 1.932 billion forints have been procured using EU funds.

The initiative aims to alleviate the financial burden on disadvantaged families, as school start-up costs have risen. Recent data indicates that school supplies have increased in price by an average of 3.1 percent over the past year, with some first-year expenses potentially reaching 100,000 forints.
