Archaeologists conducting excavations at Külhöyük, a 5,000-year-old Hattian and Hittite settlement in Ankara's Gölbaşı district, have discovered 4,000-year-old seed remains of the endemic Sevgi Çiçeği (Centaurea).

The seeds were found inside a Hittite vessel, providing the oldest known evidence of this specific plant species. The Sevgi Çiçeği is an endemic species that currently grows exclusively in the Gölbaşı region and received a geographical indication in 2019.

The project is a Presidential Determined Excavation, carried out through a collaboration between the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and Ankara University, led by Doç. Dr. Derya Yılmaz Tekin. Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy noted that the find offers a new window into the rich flora history of Anatolia.
