KLM and Air France‑KLM Offer Free Rebooking on Long‑Haul Tickets Amid Fuel‑Supply Concerns

From 9 June to 18 June, KLM announced that all tickets to long‑haul destinations purchased in that period can be changed free of charge, with discounted fares on 50 routes. The move aims to encourage bookings despite uncertainty over a potential kerosene shortage caused by the ongoing closure of the Strait of Hormuz.

Air France‑KLM introduced a similar temporary measure for tickets departing from France, allowing free changes on long‑haul flights and offering double economy‑class loyalty points, particularly targeting travellers to Bangkok. Both airlines say they have sufficient fuel supplies for the summer schedule and do not expect any flight cancellations.

The airlines cite extra fuel purchases in the United States, Norway and West Africa and increased refinery output in Europe, but warn that reserve stocks are declining later in the year. The flexible‑ticket policies are intended to reassure price‑sensitive passengers and maintain load factors on intercontinental routes.
