KLM Cityhopper prepares final stored Embraer E195-E2 for return to service

KLM Cityhopper is preparing the final Embraer E195-E2 aircraft stored at Twente Airport for return to service. This marks the end of a multi-year period where four regional jets were grounded due to engine issues.

The grounding was caused by required inspections of the Pratt & Whitney PW1900G Geared Turbofan engines following concerns regarding powder material and potential hairline cracks. During the storage period, KLM utilized some of these aircraft as sources for spare parts to maintain the rest of its active E195-E2 fleet.

Of the four aircraft stored, two (PH-NXA and PH-NXB) have already been reintegrated into the flight network. A third unit (PH-NXD) was sent to Bratislava, Slovakia, for a comprehensive C-check to ensure airworthiness. The final aircraft, PH-NXE, is currently undergoing preparation for reactivation. Once returned to service, these planes will help increase KLM Cityhopper's capacity on European regional routes operating from Amsterdam Schiphol.
