KLM introduces student ticket options and paid catering
KLM is introducing several new service changes for its passengers. The airline has launched new ticket options specifically for youth and students, aged 12 to 24, as well as full-time students between 18 and 29. These Economy Class tickets offer increased flexibility, allowing for free flight changes, though cancellation fees of 100 euros for European flights and 250 euros for intercontinental flights still apply. Additionally, eligible passengers can bring one extra piece of checked baggage weighing up to 23 kilograms.
Separately, KLM plans to introduce a paid catering model called ‘Grand Café KLM’ on select European flights starting in October. Under this system, passengers will be able to purchase a variety of food and beverages, such as wraps, tapas boxes, and alcoholic drinks, while basic items like coffee, tea, water, and orange juice will remain free of charge. This move aligns with a broader industry trend where airlines generate additional revenue from ancillary services on short-haul routes.
