KLM Maintenance Division Placed Under Intensified Dutch Oversight

The Dutch Transport and Environment Inspectorate (ILT) has placed KLM Engineering & Maintenance under intensified surveillance starting at the end of May. The regulator identified shortcomings in how the division records and completes minor maintenance tasks such as paint repairs, dents and scratches, and urged faster administrative handling, particularly for Boeing 737 aircraft.

KLM affirmed that flight safety has never been compromised and that the oversight does not affect the division’s Part‑145 certification, allowing it to continue servicing its own fleet and those of about 200 other airlines, including British Airways, Lufthansa and Emirates. The supervision is scheduled to run until the end of December, during which KLM must submit an improvement plan and provide regular progress reports to the ILT.

Annually, the division works on more than 3,000 aircraft, handling thousands of maintenance interventions worldwide.
