KLM to remove free sandwiches from economy flights
KLM will discontinue its practice of providing free cheese sandwiches on economy-class flights in Europe starting this October. While passengers will still have access to complimentary coffee, tea, water, orange juice, and a traditional Dutch stroopwafel, the airline is expanding its menu of paid food and beverage options to offer travelers more flexibility and choice.
This shift reflects a broader trend within the aviation industry toward highly individualized service models and tiered pricing. Airlines are increasingly unbundling services to maintain lower base fares while generating revenue through add-ons. This includes charging for specific seating, various luggage options, and even reserving overhead bin space, as seen with carriers like Condor and Ryanair.
