Kloster Irsee to host cultural program for Open Monument Day
Kloster Irsee, a former Benedictine abbey in Swabia, will participate in the ‘Tag des offenen Denkmals’ (Open Monument Day) on September 13, 2026. The event features guided tours of the monastery church, convent building, and the Prosektur memorial site.
The program includes an organ vesper at 5:00 PM in the St. Peter und Paul monastery church, performed by organist André Simanowski. The repertoire will feature works by Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, Johann Caspar von Kerll, Frater Marianus Königsberger, and Pater Placidus Metsch, utilizing the historic window organ built by Balthasar Freiwiß in 1754.
Admission to the tours and the vesper is free, though donations are encouraged to support maintenance and organ upkeep. The abbey has transitioned through various roles, serving as a district asylum between 1849 and 1972, and as a Swabian regional education and culture center since 1981.
