Klosterneuburg unveils plans for former Magdeburg-Kaserne site

The city of Klosterneuburg has presented initial implementation plans for the ‘Pionierviertel’, the site of the former Magdeburg-Kaserne. The development aims to transform the 7.3-hectare area into a multifunctional district focused on housing, employment, economy, security, and education.

Approximately two hectares of the site are designated for an educational campus. To move forward, the municipal council will request an environmental impact assessment from the state of Lower Austria, with results expected in the first quarter of 2027. Following this, a concrete development concept will be drafted.

Mayor Christoph Kaufmann stated that the vision aims to prevent youth migration by providing adequate housing options. The plan also includes robust flood protection for the Danube area to facilitate new residential construction.
