Kültür Park receives international Green Flag Award

Mersin Büyükşehir Belediyesi’s Kültür Park has been awarded the Green Flag Award by the international independent environmental organization Keep Britain Tidy. Following an eight-month application and evaluation process, the park became one of only seven green spaces in Turkey to receive this distinction on its first attempt.

The certification process evaluated several criteria, including visitor safety, equal access, waste management, cleanliness, and the maintenance of vegetation and structures. Additionally, the assessment looked at environmental management practices such as waste reduction, minimal chemical use, climate change strategies, and the preservation of biodiversity and cultural heritage.

Mersin Deputy Mayor Gülşah Yıldırım Genç received the award on behalf of the municipality, noting that the certification reflects the administration’s commitment to sustainable management and the expansion of high-quality green spaces in the city.
