KMI hosts international forum on shipping and port decarbonization
The Korea Maritime Institute (KMI) held the 3rd International Forum on Shipping and Port Decarbonization on October 27. Co-hosted with the Pacific Environment (PE), the event brought together government officials, research institutes, and industry leaders from the shipping, shipbuilding, and fuel sectors.
The forum focused on several key areas: international regulatory trends, specifically regarding International Maritime Organization (IMO) greenhouse gas reduction targets; non-regulatory support measures to promote zero-emission vessels; and policy trends across major Asian nations including Singapore, Japan, and China.
Discussions also addressed the expansion of eco-friendly fuel supply chains, the transformation of port infrastructure into clean energy hubs, and the electrification of the maritime sector. Experts explored ways to reduce investment risks for companies transitioning to green technologies and discussed the deployment of energy-efficient technologies to facilitate the shift toward zero- and low-emission fuels.
