KMP Putri Yasmin fire: Search expands for four missing in Lombok Strait
Search and rescue operations are continuing in the Lombok Strait following a fire on the passenger vessel KMP Putri Yasmin on August 12, 2026. As of August 17, four individuals—identified as Yasir Arafat, Selvina Rambu Mayi, I Made Sutarjana, and Slamet Yulianto—remain missing.
To locate the missing passengers, authorities have expanded the search area to approximately 3,650 square nautical miles. Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi stated that the vessel was deemed seaworthy based on its last inspection in June 2026. The government is currently awaiting a formal investigation by the National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) to determine the cause of the fire. Additionally, officials are conducting a thorough verification of passenger manifests to address potential discrepancies between recorded data and the number of people successfully evacuated.
