Knauf to invest 70 million dinars in Tunisian gypsum project
The German construction materials group Knauf is preparing to invest 70 million Tunisian dinars to restart a gypsum extraction and processing project in the Tataouine region. The project, which has been stalled since receiving authorization in 2012, aims to establish an industrial unit with an expected annual capacity of 180,000 tonnes.
During a recent working session led by Tataouine Governor Amir Gabsi, regional authorities and Knauf representatives discussed resolving the primary obstacle: land ownership and legal exploitation frameworks. Regional services have committed to supporting the investor by accelerating administrative procedures and addressing land-related issues to facilitate the project's commencement.
Knauf, which has operated in Tunisia since 2004, expects the new unit to generate significant direct employment and specialized training programs. The group indicated that this project could serve as a foundation for further investments in the region.
