KNDS postpones IPO amid European defence market volatility
The Franco‑German defence group KNDS has delayed its planned initial public offering, originally slated for summer 2026, citing the heightened volatility of European defence markets. The company maintains a valuation target of €15‑18 billion and says the postponement is a strategic move to protect that value. Tom Enders, chairman of KNDS’s board, reiterated that the IPO remains the top priority and dismissed rumours of a full nationalisation of the Leclerc and Leopard tank programmes by France and Germany.
The delay comes as Europe grapples with broader security and industrial challenges. A recent incident at Leipzig‑Halle Airport, where a commercial drone equipped with an explosive device forced a temporary shutdown of a key logistics hub for military supplies to Ukraine, underscored gaps in critical‑infrastructure protection. Analysts link such threats to the ongoing US‑China trade war reshaping defence supply chains and to budgetary pressures that limit European governments’ ability to fund rapid capability upgrades.
