Knicks championship celebrations turn violent in Manhattan, bus set ablaze and teen shot

New York Knicks clinched their first NBA title since 1973, prompting thousands of fans to flood Manhattan streets after the final game. Around 2 a.m., crowds gathered around a convoy of about 15 yellow school buses that had been used to transport football World Cup fans from the Brazil‑Morocco match. Some celebrants climbed onto the bus roofs, entered the vehicles and even sat in the drivers' seats. One bus was deliberately set on fire and at least three others sustained serious damage.

During the chaos a 17‑year‑old boy was shot in the foot near Times Square. Police reported three suspects were arrested for questioning. Witnesses described the scene as chaotic, with fireworks, smoke bombs and chants of “Knicks in five!” A Canadian of Moroccan origin, Yusuf Sabir, told Reuters, “People are just expressing their joy, a little aggressively.”
