Knightmare television series to receive free adventure game adaptation
A new point-and-click adventure game based on the classic British children’s television series Knightmare has been announced. Led by developers Ewen Watson and Sathya Schlösser, the project is being developed as a free, officially licensed independent game for PC, with a planned release in late 2027.
The game aims to celebrate the upcoming 40th anniversary of the original show, which aired on ITV between 1987 and 1994. To maintain authenticity, the developers have secured permission from the show’s creator, Tim Child, and have arranged for several original cast members to return for voice acting. This includes Hugo Myatt as Treguard and Mark Knight as Lord Fear.
In a departure from modern industry trends, the development team has committed to using entirely hand-drawn artwork and animation, explicitly rejecting the use of artificial intelligence. While the game will feature classic elements like deadly puzzles and iconic locations, certain mechanics have been updated for a more relaxed player experience, such as removing the strict food-based life depletion system found in the original series.
