KnokHealth to run Portugal's first state‑funded private health centre

KnokHealth, a Portuguese health‑services firm founded in 2015 in Matosinhos, has secured a five‑year contract worth €2.4 million to manage the Unidade de Saúde Familiar (USF) of São Pedro da Cadeira in Torres Vedras. The centre, the first in Portugal to be financed by the state but operated by a private company, will provide primary care to 5,463 registered patients.

CEO and co‑founder José Bastos said the partnership aims to address the 1.6 million Portuguese citizens without a family doctor. KnokHealth, which reported €10.1 million in revenue and €1.4 million profit last year—a 34 % increase—relies on public contracts for less than 15 % of its turnover. The firm has signed 12 public contracts in the past two years, including a recent €58 000 agreement with the Aveiro health region for additional primary‑care services.
