Knokke-Heist closes Zoutelaan for sewerage works

The Zoutelaan in Knokke-Heist has been closed to all traffic between Prins Karellaan and Konijnendreef as of September 1. This marks the start of the third phase of sewerage works, which is expected to continue until mid-October for the specific section between Sparrendreef and Hollandspad.

To facilitate the installation of new sewerage within a closed construction pit, grout walls are being installed between Konijnendreef and Marcellaan using cutter soil mixing (CSM) technology. This method uses rotating cutter wheels to mix cement into the soil, creating a stable, low-vibration wall to contain water and soil near existing buildings.

Traffic diversions are in place via Kustlaan and Bronlaan for those traveling toward the Netherlands or Zwin Nature Park. While cars are restricted, pedestrians and cyclists may still access certain areas. The broader project involving the Zoutelaan is currently scheduled to continue until late June 2027.
