KNVB calls for FIFA reform summit and new leadership by 2027
The Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB) has formally challenged FIFA's leadership, stating that the organization requires new leadership starting in 2027. The KNVB declared that it has lost confidence in current President Gianni Infantino, citing an excessive concentration of power and a lack of clear separation between the presidency and the organization's administration.
To address these issues, the KNVB has proposed hosting an international summit in Amsterdam to discuss deep structural reforms. The association emphasized that simply replacing the president is insufficient; instead, FIFA requires a new governance model characterized by increased transparency, independent oversight, and a stronger focus on human rights and sustainability.
The KNVB identified the withdrawal of the FIFA Forward Enterprise project as a turning point in its relationship with Infantino. Additionally, the Dutch federation proposed that 90 percent of FIFA's distributable revenue should be reinvested into the development of football. This move follows growing pressure from other bodies, such as UEFA, which is reportedly pursuing legal action against Infantino in the Swiss judicial system.
