Knytt Classic remaster released for free on Steam and GOG.com

To mark its 20th anniversary, the atmospheric 2D platformer Knytt has been remastered as Knytt Classic. Developed by Bit Kid in collaboration with original creator Nicklas Nifflas (Nicklas Nygren), the title is available for free on Steam and GOG.com.

While maintaining the core gameplay of the 2006 original—which focuses on exploration and movement through labyrinthine planetary landscapes rather than combat—the remaster introduces several modern technical enhancements. These include full controller support, Steam Deck compatibility, achievements, and various display filters such as retro CRT and LCD modes.

The release also features three new game modes. These include the “UltraTough” mode by Bit Kid, and the official implementation of two former community mods: “Knytt XH (Extra Hard)” by Hempuli (creator of Baba Is You) and “Brutally Unfair Knytt” by the Copenhagen Game Collective.
