Öko-Test evaluates 22 hair mousse products for safety and ingredients
A recent study by Öko-Test examined 22 hair mousse products from drugstores, supermarkets, and major brands, focusing on ingredient safety for skin and the environment rather than just styling performance.
Certified natural cosmetics, specifically Alterra Volumen Schaumfestiger (sold at Rossmann) and Alverde Schaumfestiger (sold at dm), received the highest rating of ‘very good’. Several affordable drugstore options also performed well.
In contrast, Pantene Pro-V Perfect Volume received a ‘deficient’ rating. The product contains the synthetic musk fragrance Galaxolid, which accumulates in human fat tissue and the environment. The substance is currently under EU re-evaluation due to potential hormonal effects and possible carcinogenicity. Other popular brands, including Wella and Balea, received ‘satisfactory’ ratings due to the presence of plastic compounds that can impact the environment.
