Öko-Test evaluates oat milk barista products
A study by Öko-Test examined 27 barista-style oat milk products, including 19 organic options, to assess foam stability and ingredient quality. The testing focused on how much foam 150 milliliters of the drink could produce and how long that foam maintained its structure over ten minutes.
Results showed significant variation in performance. While 20 products achieved good or very good foam quality, the market leader, Oatly Barista Edition, received only an “ausreichend” (sufficient) rating. In contrast, some supermarket private labels, such as Lidl’s Vemondo Bio Barista, were noted for their performance, although some struggled with foam volume.
The laboratory also tested for contaminants, including pesticides like glyphosate, heavy metals such as lead and cadmium, and mycotoxins. No findings from these specific chemical analyses negatively impacted the overall ratings of the products tested.
