Öko-Test finds pesticide residues in conventional vegetable broths

A laboratory study by Öko-Test on 27 different vegetable broths and bouillons has revealed significant quality differences between organic and conventional products. All 17 organic products tested achieved a rating of at least 'good'.

In contrast, the conventional products performed poorly, with only two receiving a 'good' rating and five receiving 'unsatisfactory' or 'insufficient' marks. A major issue identified was the presence of pesticide residues in almost all conventional varieties. Notably, the Aldi Nord and Aldi Süd private label 'Le Gusto Klare Gemüsebrühe' was found to contain four different types of pesticide traces.

Furthermore, the test identified traces of Clothianidin in two products, a pesticide that has not been authorized for use in the European Union for several years. High salt content and sugar additives were also noted as factors in lower-quality products. The top-performing products were Knorr Bio Gemüse-Bouillon, which had the highest vegetable content at 32.5 percent, and Rewe Bio Gemüsebrühe, both receiving 'very good' ratings.
