Öko-Test identifies top sunscreens for sensitive skin

A laboratory analysis by Öko-Test evaluated 21 sunscreens specifically marketed for sensitive skin. The study found that only three products received the highest rating of “Sehr gut” (Very good) without deductions: Lavera Sonnenlotion Sensitiv SPF 30, Sun d‘Or Sonnenmilch Sensitiv SPF 30, and Alverde Sonnenmilch Sensitiv SPF 30.

While twelve products performed well, the consumer magazine noted that many sensitive skin sunscreens failed to meet certain standards, with some containing ingredients that parents should avoid. The testing focused on skin nourishment and the accuracy of the stated UV protection levels.

In related dermatological insights, experts explain that the speed at which individuals tan is determined by biological factors, specifically the production of melanin. Dermatologist Prof. Michaela Axt-Gadermann notes that the balance between eumelanin, which provides effective UV protection and a deep tan, and pheomelanin, which offers little protection and often results in redness, dictates how different skin types react to sun exposure.
