Ko Un-sung to return to LG Twins after MLB departure

Pitcher Ko Un-sung is set to return to his former team, the LG Twins, following his departure from the Minnesota Twins in Major League Baseball. After being designated for assignment (DFA) by the Twins to make room on the roster, Ko has expressed his intention to return to South Korea to rejoin the LG Twins.

Ko is expected to arrive at Incheon International Airport on September 1 to finalize contract negotiations with the club. While his return will bolster the LG Twins' bullpen—which has been struggling due to several key injuries—KBO regulations dictate that he will be ineligible to participate in the postseason. According to league rules, players must be registered by July 31 to qualify for the playoffs, unless they are returning from military service.

Ko, who previously achieved significant milestones in the KBO including becoming the youngest pitcher to reach 30 saves, first moved to the United States in 2024. His return comes at a critical time for the LG Twins as they compete for higher standings in the league.
