Kochav Yaakov settlement receives tender for 627 new housing units

The Israel Land Authority has issued a tender for the construction of 627 new housing units in the Kochav Yaakov settlement, located in the Ramallah and al-Bireh governorate. The project, which covers approximately 253.7 dunams, follows a planning approval granted in April 2025. The deadline for construction companies to submit bids is November 30, 2026.

The Palestinian Colonization and Wall Resistance Commission stated that this move transitions the project from the planning phase to active implementation. The settlement is situated between northern Jerusalem and the cities of Ramallah and al-Bireh, within the Binyamin bloc. Observers note that the expansion aims to strengthen the settlement's demographic presence and its connection to surrounding infrastructure, which may increase the separation between Jerusalem and Palestinian urban centers.

This announcement is part of a broader trend of settlement activity. In the first half of 2026, authorities issued 12 tenders covering 1,138 units across five major settlements, including Ariel and Ma'ale Adumim. These projects also include industrial zones, commercial areas, and service facilities. Additionally, a separate military order was issued to seize 2,224 dunams of land in the Salfit governorate for military purposes near the Ariel settlement.
