Kobe McDonald Arrives in Australia to Begin AFL St Kilda Career

Irish Gaelic football star Kobe McDonald, 18, arrived in Australia on Thursday after completing his Leaving Cert and was welcomed by St Kilda. He is expected to attend the club’s match against Carlton at Marvel Stadium the following evening.

McDonald has signed a three‑year contract with the Saints and will likely begin in the club’s reserve VFL side before any senior AFL debut. His move has reignited concerns from the Gaelic Athletic Association about the AFL’s recruitment of young Irish talent.

The AFL is already scouting a second Irish prospect, 16‑year‑old Dublin minor Cian Raftery, with interest from clubs including Tasmania, Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and St Kilda.
