Kobyłka hosts 'Be Fit Like Zawiszak' picnic for Warsaw Uprising anniversary

A historical‑educational picnic called "Be Fit Like Zawiszak" was held at Plac 15 Sierpnia in Kobyłka, Poland, as part of local commemorations of the 82nd anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising. Organized by the volunteer group Szare Szeregi, the event invited children and their families to experience daily life in occupied Warsaw through six interactive stations that recreated wartime roles such as a field post, a field hospital, a fitness test, a tailoring workshop and a locksmith workshop.

Participants learned that the youngest Warsaw Uprising medic was only eight years old, that the field post delivered up to 10,000 letters each day, and that the iconic Polish Fighting Flag was created in 1942. Historical equipment, uniforms and replica weapons from World War II were displayed. After completing all tasks, participants received a symbolic team badge and the most diligent earned a ride in a replica German WWII vehicle.

The picnic aimed to make history tangible, fostering remembrance of the Uprising while providing a hands‑on learning experience for the community.
