Turkish courts proceed with major homicide and fraud trials

Several high-profile criminal cases are progressing through the Turkish judicial system.

In Mersin's Anamur district, a prosecutor has requested an aggravated life sentence for N. U. regarding the death of 12-year-old Eyüp Can Güner. The case involves a pursuit in a commercial passage that resulted in the child's death. The prosecutor has requested the charge be upgraded to intentional homicide against a child.

In Kilis, two defendants, Hüseyin Boğuç and Azittin Altınöz, were sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment for the murder and sexual abuse of 9-year-old Gina Mercimek. The court issued the maximum sentence without reductions following a Supreme Court reversal.

In Istanbul, the trial for the 2016 murder of Mezdeke dancer Aynur Kanbur has commenced. Defendants Bülent Gündüz, Fazlı Kar, and Serdar Kar face aggravated life imprisonment for premeditated murder. Gündüz admitted to the shooting but claimed it was not premeditated, citing a dispute over the victim's lifestyle.

Additionally, in Adana, one suspect was arrested for allegedly defrauding elderly citizens by impersonating government officials. Authorities recovered stolen jewelry and cash, which were returned to the victims.
