Kocaeli hosts Western Thrace handicraft teachers for cultural training
Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality has established a cultural and educational bridge with Western Thrace by hosting a 34-person delegation of handicraft teachers. The group, comprising members from the Xanthi Turkish Union and the Gümülcine Turkish Youth Union, visited Kocaeli at the invitation of Mayor Tahir Büyükakın.
During their stay at the Darıca Balyanoz Training Facilities, the teachers participated in practical training sessions led by KO-MEK instructors. The curriculum focused on specialized branches including basket weaving, wood painting, and ebru art.
The initiative aims to empower the teachers to transfer these new skills and technical knowledge to their local communities in Xanthi and Gümülcine, fostering the preservation of traditional handicrafts for future generations.
