Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality's Accessible Taxi Logs 13,131 Trips in First Half of 2026

Kocaeli Büyükşehir Belediyesi's "Engelsiz Taksi" (Accessible Taxi) service provided safe, comfortable transport for wheelchair‑using citizens throughout the first six months of 2026. From January to June the system recorded 13,131 trips across the province's 12 districts, covering visits to hospitals, dialysis centers, physical‑therapy units, schools, cultural events and other social destinations.

The service operates with a fleet of 16 lift‑equipped minibuses that pick up passengers via a scheduled appointment system managed by the municipality's 153 Call Centre. Requests must be placed at least 24 hours in advance, and the service runs every day of the week, ensuring continuous, barrier‑free mobility for people with disabilities.

By facilitating daily travel for health, education, sport and social activities, the programme seeks to reduce mobility obstacles and promote independent, active participation in community life.
