Funda Bakış, national gymnastics coach, killed in Istanbul stabbing
National gymnastics coach Funda Bakış was killed in Sancaktepe, Istanbul, following a dispute over unpaid debts. The incident occurred on Sunday, August 30, in the Abdurrahmangazi neighborhood.
Zehra G., a former colleague of Bakış, has been arrested on charges of intentional homicide. In her prosecutor's statement, Zehra G. claimed the stabbing was accidental, asserting that Bakış lunged at her during a confrontation, causing the knife to strike her.
The dispute reportedly stems from a debt involving 20,000 Turkish Lira and two quarter gold coins, as well as a 100,000 Lira loan. Two other individuals, Ahmet Hasan U. and Erhan Ş., were also detained in connection with the fight. The incident was captured on mobile phone footage, showing the argument escalating into violence.
